Let's kick off my return to blogging by quickly saying a little something about the historical events of last night, shall we?

In a matter of one night, my faith in this nation has been restored. A wonderful co-worker and friend of mine said it best, "I feel like I can have kids now!" It brings tears to my eyes because that statement embodies the fears that many of us have had for so long, and the hope that we now feel.

I cannot express how happy I am for the black community... this is huge. There are still people alive today who experienced the injustice of Jim Crow Laws here in the South, and in their lifetime they were able to see a man of their same race come into the most powerful position in the free world. If that doesn't personify "inspirational", I don't know what would.

And I could not be more excited to see what kind of puppy Malia and Sasha get! Every president has brought a dog to the White House, which is by far the coolest tradition of the presidency as far as I'm concerned.


(I wish I could have been in Chicago last night. Wow.)

Thank you Barack Obama, for making me proud to be an American once again.

Okay, so I'll admit, I kinda love Gossip Girl... it's got killer fashion and most importantly, it's not a reality show! I can't stop watching these spoiled Manhattan débutantes every week, and really, I don't care.

So anyways, when I came across this gem, I had to share:

I Just Don't Get It:

This is a chart of military expenditures throughout the world broken down by country... in billions of dollars.

Why is this necessary?!?!

Also, why do we have eleven aircraft carriers currently in service?! To put this in perspective for you: The United Kingdom, Russia, and Italy tie for the second-most amount of current carriers... with two each. There are 22 total carriers throughout the world... which means that we have half of those. Why do we feel the need for this?!?

Absolutely absurd.

This Wall Street Journal interactive feature is really cool... Plus it gives me hope that the candidate that I will be voting for on election day might just win. :)

This is making me slightly more optimistic about the economy and my fast-approaching job hunt...

Your History Lesson for the Day:

If you're concerned about the economy and the financial crisis, read up on the New Deal before you make a decision about which presidential candidate has the more promising plan of attack.

It seems like common sense to me: do something similar to what we did last time we were in this mess. It worked then, with a little tweaking it can work now.

It's Time For Us To Come Together*:

I don't pretend to know everything that there is to know about politics and I seldom let the word even pass through my lips... but here is what I know for certain:

-I am 110% pro-choice.
(It is a woman's body, let her choose.)
-I am most definitely for gay rights.
(It's 2008! I cannot believe that there are still people without equal rights.)
-We desperately need universal health care.
(Let's be honest, if Canadians can do it, so can we.)
-We shouldn't be in Iraq still.
(We probably shouldn't have been there in the first place.)
-Something needs to change.

And based on those criteria, I know that I cannot vote Republican this year.
